The Mediterranean island of Ibiza boasts a reputation as the party capital of the world. If you’re heading to sun-drenched Ibiza and looking to stretch your vacation finances further while you’re there then make sure you follow these budget tips.
Seeking out the best online deals should be your first move before booking your holidays to Ibiza. Shopping around for value-for-money accommodation can be very rewarding financially. Don’t forget that all-inclusive is a cost-effective option, but if you want more freedom regarding meals and drinks your first step should be comparing options such as self-catering and room only.
Go to San Antonio
San Antonio is Ibiza’s second largest town (and the island’s party capital). The many hotels and oversupply of rooms there means you can find some excellent low cost deals here. If you’re booking online, research at least two hotel websites to broaden your search — whereas they often say “Less is more” in some ways of life, in this case “More is less (money)” (!). If you’re going to Ibiza in a group, think about hiring a private villa, since this can work out much cheaper when the total cost is split. Who wouldn’t mind a bit of extra drinking money in their pocket!
Choose your season
Ibiza offers sunny weather just about the whole year round, but the season you choose to visit will make a difference to the price. The temperature will hit over 95ºF (35ºC) during June, July and August, which is also when accommodation prices peak. Making your way to the island even just a few weeks outside of these peak months can put considerable dollars back in your pocket. Also try to avoid the school holiday periods throughout the year if you’re looking for budget holiday prices.
Look out for bar deals
Once you’ve arrived in Ibiza you won’t be able to avoid the promoters standing outside the bars and pubs trying to entice customers inside with free drinks. Free drinks are a great way to cut down on spending, but there will usually be a one or two free drink limit before you have to start paying for more. Always see how much drinks cost before you pay and if they seem slightly extortionate simply move on to another bar (Ibiza has plenty, as we know!). Remember that the bars, restaurants and nightclubs are all competing for your holiday cash. Take the time to find a decent deal — they’re out there.
Finally, remember that the big Ibiza nightclubs can be frighteningly expensive and the entry fee can easily eat into your budget. A quick money saving tip is to go into the clubs early for free entry and this will usually be before a set time, in most cases midnight or 1am. Bars such as Café del Mar offer free sunset parties with big name DJs during the evening before the late night clubs kick off. You don’t want to miss them — or the chance to save a few extra dollars!
If you’re flying over to Ibiza for the club scene, you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg when you’re there. Of course, you’ll want to keep them for dancing, don’t forget! Bars, restaurants, and nightclubs might all try to make some big bucks out of you, but with these tips you can keep your wallet reasonably fat. It’s better in your pocket than in theirs, after all. Right?
