I am an Ordinary employee with an ambition to become one of the top executives sometime in my career. I may not be on target as of now, but I want to be on course. I have worked at few Fortune 500 corporation, observed their top management. Attended their town-halls and tried to learn from them, as much as I could. This post is a summary of things I learned.

Employee and management

Highly successful persons are apart from others. They are able to rise atop their counterparts in terms of performance and always get tasks done. Oftentimes, these people are the first to obtain recognition when promotions are due, as well as awards and like corporate gratitude expressions. The logic applied here is quite simple, which is that highly top executives are far more effective than regular workers.

Furthermore, you can look into online schools to earn this degree while holding down your current career. The main idea that you should take with you is that there is enough opportunity for anyone to achieve success. You just need the drive and motivation.

People who are successful take on workplace tasks which others do not even dare attempt though opportunities are availed to all of them equally. Successful workers get beyond normal limitations where ordinary workers curb their effectiveness by thinking in small fashion. A top executive and regular worker all appear very similar judging by their outward appearance.

Indeed, workers who are less efficient tend to manage time in a very poor manner and have trouble coping with stressful situations. They, however, are capable of hiding any weaknesses they have quite impressively underneath stacks of routine and paperwork.

Workers who are extremely successful in contrast engage in excellent work habits. If seeking for greater success, you would be better to adopt effective work mannerisms that highly effective workers exhibit.

10 Habits of people who go up

1) Top executives are always prompt with schedules. They ensure planning ahead of time and are very early at doing things, which deals with any possible obstacle which could sabotage their initiatives, slowing them down.

2) These persons are as well very organized in their affairs. Regular workers may try getting themselves properly organized, but highly successful persons take this aspect religiously. Top-notch executives are the ones who comprise list makers, calendar drafters plus those persons who keep deadlines and birthdays in mind. If you require something organized or planned, workers who are highly effective have all the skills required.

3) They are able to handle stress. Good management of stress is a critical habit with these persons since they oftentimes handle more responsibilities than their counterparts who are less efficient. This element, in particular, makes it necessary for them to perfect their stress-combating mechanisms.

4) Top executives are quite independent and do not depend on the feedback or input of colleagues in order for them to succeed. They rather are able to fulfill tasks independently even if lacking external support, since they are confident with their own abilities.

5) They focus on clear targets they want to achieve. These professionals do not divulge attention to many different objectives. They rather concentrate on marshaling assistance from diverse individuals, which is directly linked to their primary goals.

6) These people play office politics well. (See More – 20 Ways to Survive Office Politics) No matter which organization it is, there are politics in every level. Top executives play these politics very well in their favor. They were quick to grab opportunities and they are far-sighted enough to sense upcoming chances. They play their cards well. We have to  admit it, politics is essential and integral part of your journey up the ladder.

7) They also very good communicators and usually express themselves in a straight manner. They seek answers to queries and also share goals plus any advice which is useful, which creates an environment where everyone can bloom.

8) Top executives do not get wound up in intricate details. These persons are aware of the big picture at all times and rarely complain about minor issues. Such individuals focus their energy toward larger goals while at work and do not get upset when some minor thing fails to go as planned. They, rather, soldier on in spite of experiencing these minor setbacks.

9) Top executives do not get contented with an average life. One main difference exists between a person who is greatly successful and one who simply holds a position of influence. Top executives keep continue working on skill improvement, which enables them avoid stagnation. There is a great challenge in maintaining status quo on everyone, but successful workers persist in growth in spite of this success.

10) These persons keep in high spirits and reach positions of high-profile by design. They are diligent at work by choice the result of which such people end up injecting inspiration to others. This is something of tremendous importance within the workplace. Individuals who are unhappy do not perform well at any place and mostly within office settings.

Representing singular image of a successful worker can be quite challenging since effective employees are spread through various ages, genders plus career choices. However, it is rather easy to spot one. If keen to be efficient, organized, spirited and prompt as a worker who is well spirited, do your best to emulate the principles of success outlined above.

Even when not searching for a job and everything is going on really well, it is vital that you ensure staying relevant and along your career line. Do not wait until the time when promotions are due in order to re-brand yourself. Determine your value proposition and brand reputation while still early.

It is vital to evaluate what works in your line of career today and assess what is required to keep visible within it.

Be real and honest regarding your career feelings, current role, skills, and contributions. Conduct regular self-evaluation as this leads to fulfillment in your occupation. Learn about letting go of mistakes which you might have done in the past at work, which oftentimes are difficult to change.

Instead, focus on generating better results in future by utilizing the lessons you have acquired from previous mishaps. Condition your mind to view these negative incidences as challenges rather than personal failures. You also can find it much helpful rewarding yourself for achievements in a career.

Take an inventory of all minor and significant goals which you have executed for every period of six months, going up to one year. Analyze what may have altered and occasioned positive results and clearly define the changes which you have initiated. Determine the areas for which you can take due to the successful accomplishment of set targets.

Hi SB, nice post. I particularly agree with numbers 3 and 8. Coming from a similar background as you, I can easily pick out the leaders because their thinking is much more strategic and less tactical. Additionally, stress management is a must, otherwise they’d be gone from the burnout of having such great responsibilities.

I do, however, disagree with number 4. I would make the opposite argument, that oftentimes, it’s input from the employees that provides the executive with information they need to make good decisions and complete tasks. Receiving feedback from others and using one’s abilities confidently peacefully coexist quite well.

I have turned down promotion to higher managerial positions. I like being a Senior Engineer where I get to manage projects from start to finish. I have no desire to move up in the company. I already get paid much more than I think I should, so I am happy staying where I am.

I like number 7 the most. Straight forward answers and communication, there isn’t time to waste when you are at that level.
