3 Ways to Save Money As a Student

What do all university students across the world have in common? They’re usually skint.  Balancing your studies while paying those baffling bills and trying to eat something other than chicken dippers and instant noodles once in a while can feel impossible!

3 Ways to Save Money As a Student

But don’t get yourself into an unmanageable financial situation. Banishing the debt, living within a budget, and finding things cheaper will allow you to focus on getting that degree. Why worry when you can plan ahead?

Follow our top tips to save a bit of extra cash and buy yourself financial freedom!

1. Know how to handle your bills

Organizing bills is a bit of a nightmare if you’ve no experience in these matters. Throw in the chaos of a student house, and your dramas are compounded.

Once you’ve hunted around for the best deal and got your bills set up, you’re then faced with the task of splitting them between your housemates, which can turn into a challenge for the most skilled diplomat.

But with Split the Bills, you can place all household bills into one easy payment with no service charge, making it easier for all.

2. Get thrifty with food

Takeaways are a rite of passage amongst university students. It’s a great way to bring together friends and flatmates, and enjoy a hearty meal too.

But regular takeaways can start to add up, having an alarming impact on your expenditures after a while.

Instead of breaking the bank every time you get peckish and don’t fancy cooking, try a service like Too Good To Go. Their app aims to limit food waste from local restaurants by giving customers the opportunity to snag bargains on food that would otherwise have been thrown away, saving both the planet and your purse!

As well as local and chain restaurants, many supermarkets and grocers are registered through the app, meaning you can grab great deals on leftover produce like fruit and veg as well as takeaway treats.

3. Explore alternatives

University comes with a hefty price tag, and that’s before counting tuition fees. Rent alone costs the average student £4914, and that’s before factoring expenses like travel, food and luxuries.

These prices are simply not sustainable for everyone. No one likes the idea of being saddled with mountains of debt alongside their student loan, and for those who want to work alongside their studies, the demanding timetable of traditional courses can be a major obstacle.

That’s why distance learning degrees that can be studied anywhere at any time with the likes of Anglia Ruskin University are becoming increasingly popular.  Whilst many universities have been forced to adopt the remote model over the last year and a half, ARU’s digital degree have been perfected over the course of many years to cut out the commute and open up educational opportunities to those who would otherwise be unable to study.

These are just three ways to make the most of student life whilst saving.
