Are you thinking of starting a blog? As a blogger, I will obviously say that that’s a fantastic decision and has been one of the best decisions that I’ve ever made. I say go for it! After all, you can start a blog for just $20. You may struggle at first but, with every post, you’ll gain confidence. With every passing month, you’ll be close to earning your first side income. Those initial days are pretty hectic, you’ll need to devote a good chunk of your daily time.

Some Pointers to Create Your Own Blog

Once you are passed first 6 months, you can put blogging on autopilot. All you need to do is post regularly twice/thrice a week and try to make one concrete post a week. and, if you have a day job to take care of then that’s the maximum time you’re gonna get anyway.

It has been a while since I shared anything personal. I see other bloggers share their online income details. To experiment, I’ll also reveal my January 2016 blog income, for the first time in 5 years of blogging. I’ll see the audience response and result before deciding to either continue or discontinue publishing income report in February. I am very hesitant to reveal such details in public. It may be trivial for some, but not for me.

One Cent at a Time Blog Income Report

Lately, as you have probably noticed, I wasn’t posting personal matters. My posts have become list posts with straight financial advice. Many of my posts were directed towards small business owners. Those are sponsored posts, basically. Well, there are reasons for not putting my soul into blogging. Blogging is my side hobby come business.

This is the story of my friend Bill. Who is a frequent guest posted here. I am running the blog as a side business whereas, he made his blog main source of income, a full-fledged business. Bill found drawbacks in the corporate world, the office politics, constantly being questioned, less freedom, etc. But, I enjoy my day job. My job gives me many creative ways to express myself. I lead my team rather than being bossed around. Many of you may face a tough working condition. So enjoy the post and try to see if you can apply to your life.

How to Start Blogging Business

A decade ago, I was just like thousands — or even millions — of fresh graduates: Straight out of college, I landed a job in a business outsourcing company, working as a customer service representative. You can just imagine the rush of pride I felt when I finally got that call, giving me a job offer. I thought to myself, ”This is it! The start of my corporate career!”

Best of OCAAT in 2013

Thank you readers, we successfully completed one more year of blogging! This was my third year as a financial blogger who blogs part-time. This was an eventful year, not a success story all the way. Things from technical front was not easy this year.

My original host HostGator was acquired by another company and probably that was the reason behind frequent outages and slowness you experienced throughout the first of the year. During that time some hacking took place and malicious scripts were inserted, which did affect my search ranking with Google. I recovered from the low somehow. But I switched the host a couple of times, which took a lot of time and energy on my part.

This was also the year when I posted lesser posts compared to 2012, by an amount of 62 posts (240 vs. 178), almost one less post a week.

Welcome readers to this weekend’s chit-chat. The biggest news to share with you is of OCAAT reaching a million page view milestone. It was a journey of all success for OCAAT in last 28 months. When I started on March 1, 2011 I never set a goal, I never thought about people reading my articles a million times!

Thanks a Million

For almost 5 years, I have only been reading other blogs. I was a regular reader to personal finance blogs like The Simple Dollar, Get Rich Slowly and Consumerism commentary. I thought, hey, if they can do it, I can do it. Enough of reading was done, I thought now it’s time to have my own blog to write on.

This is an introspective post that can tell you a little bit more about myself. I was pondering over this question, how does I really feel that I am a blogger with good follower base? Am I happy, proud or just normal? Here, I will write about how does it feel to be a blogger. How a blogger feels for his blog and the readers.

GA Real time blog visitors

Real Time Visitors, as shown on Google Analytics

Blogging gives you mixed feeling. It can be enjoying, satisfying and at time it is too draining. No doubt it’s a great feeling that readers keep coming back for the new posts. When I see the dots in my real-time Google Analytics screen (like in the picture above), I feel proud to be a blogger. I think it’s the same feeling of pride that book authors get with each copy being sold. Where it pains is the immense work-load you take on.

Welcome reader! Like all other weeks, today I will have another round of personal conversation with you. Strictly non personal finance. Today I wish to talk about search engines and our, bloggers, struggle to appear at the top of search results.

Readers who are not yet familiar with the concept of SEO (Search Engine Optimization), SEO is a technique which puts a particular site ahead of other sites in a search result. SEO technique essentially means cracking the algorithms that search engines like Google, Bing or yahoo use to rank search results.

Does blogging affect work?

Last year, when I started blogging, I didn’t know the answer, or at least, I didn’t want to find out.

I got caught up in the intricate world of blogging, to an extent I was never fascinated with anything else. Not even my day job. The reality was, there were no blog income, where as the salary was more than satisfactory.

7 Reasons Behind My Low Blog Earning

Regular readers should agree that on Sundays I don’t talk about saving money, investment or getting ahead. I do talk on subjects other than those. I share random thoughts on Sundays.

This week, let’s talk about things that kept me busy for last couple of days. I was researching about monetization of blogs. The best practices, latest trends and more specifically-how to increase earning. Yeah shameless, you may think. Those who just rolled their eyes, please consider this, a blog can’t get successful if it’s economically weak. There are certain exceptions, alright, but generally if a blogger does not keep earning money, the blog dies eventually and slowly.

Many bloggers do not show ad on their blogs but, they sell their products, books, courses, lectures for money. They use their blogs to grow a follower base to promote their money making products. Zen Habits is the best example of this type.
