The holiday season is upon us and if you are strapped for cash this Christmas, but still want to give several presents to your friends and family, consider making some gifts yourself. Do-it-yourself gift ideas are extremely popular and often cherished by the receiver of the gift.
After all, instead of just going out and purchasing something, you spend the time making a gift instead. Do not worry if you think that you do not have any special skills needed to make holiday gifts because there are plenty of gift ideas that do not require experience. Here is a list of some great DIY gifts you can give away this holiday season.
Cookies and Candies
Everyone can baked some cookies or make some candy or fudge. Pull out a recipe for one of your favorite candies or cookies and bake some presents. You may need to make a practice batch to get the hang of how to make them, and then you can start baking away.
Place the cookies in a holiday tin or decorative bag and tie closed with a bow. These make some of the best holiday gifts ever. After all, who does not like holiday cookies, candy and fudge?
Brownies In a Jar
If baking is not your thing that does not mean you still cannot give the gift of homemade goods. Try making a brownie mix jar. All you need is a mason jar, or some other type of jar that has a secure lid. Find a brownie, or cookie, recipe that you like.
Layer all of the dry ingredients in the jar one-by-one, such as flour, sugar, and cocoa. Be sure not to include any of the wet ingredients like eggs, milk, butter or vanilla. Once all of the ingredients are in the jar seal it closed. Reprint the entire recipe onto nice paper and print it out.
Cut out the recipe and tie it to the top of the jar with a bow and your gift is ready to give. This way the recipient of the gift can make the brownies or cookies whenever they want.
Most people like coffee, or at least hot chocolate, so why not consider making some coffee sleeves to give as gifts. These sleeves are very easy to make and will prevent someone from burning their fingers as they drink their cup of coffee.
All you need to make this gift is some inexpensive Christmas socks, a needle and thread, and extra buttons or felt to make cutouts. Cut a three-inch section of the sock and sew the short ends together. Attach some buttons or cutouts with glue to complete the sleeve. These gifts are that easy to make and great to give as a gift.
If you really have no money for gifts this year, that is not a problem. Instead of buying gifts, just give the gift of time. Make some coupon cards for people volunteering to help them out during the year. Each coupon will list something that you are offering to do in the upcoming year to help them out.
Some examples include house-sitting, babysitting, washing their car or providing transportation. The only thing you need to be sure of it that you do not promise to do something that you cannot complete. This is a gift that keeps on giving all year long and is greatly appreciated.
These holiday gift ideas will cost you very little, if any, money at all to complete. They definitely will be less expensive than most of the gifts you find online or in the store. Just be creative and think about the person receiving the gift. Think about the things they like or how you can make something that they will appreciate.
Be sure you plan ahead when making your own gifts, in case you need to remake it or purchase some additional supplies to complete the gift.
