Just like other types of jobs, freelance writing is not a cakewalk. In truth, being a professional paid writer is not something that you can just sit down in one corner and write specific word counts about a topic given to you. However, the good news is that this is obtainable and you can certainly make money in no time.

How to Make Money with Freelance Writing

For a fact, there are a number of methods to get paid for your writing. Perhaps, you will make enough to make writing a profitable side hustle and probably you may also consider it as your full-time job especially if you love to write. For sure, you will delight in working with something that you highly regard as your passion.

I have a team of content writers whom I fall back on occasionally for help, especially when I am too tied up with day job and, or life. I pay writers as per the subject, quality and length of the post written.

It’s not easy money for them as I am very demanding and often ask for multiple edits. So when you aspire to become a good content writer, you need to be good to survive as the place has tremendous competition. Very often I receive pitches from aspiring writers wanting to send their content to me for publication.

Not only as a career option, freelance writing is also a wonderful way to earn extra money on the side. Not the easiest ways to earn extra money for all, but natural writers view this as one of the best ways.

So, how to get started?

How can you make money by freelance writing?

Start your personal blog

Take into consideration that every writer needs a personal blog. Indeed, this is deemed as one of the most helpful places for a writer to develop both his/her audience and his/her writing style. Learn how to make money freelance writing for your own blog.

You can include a “hire me” link in your blog, put up a donate button or a sidebar ad so that people who glance and read your writing will know that you are a writer that they can hire for some writing projects.

Moreover setting up a blog is an easy task, you can even hire experts to set up your blog in a day. But I suggest you do it yourself so that you get used to making small technical changes to your blog going forward.

Consider signing up for a content site

It is worth mentioning that content writers are the ones that compose everything from articles that instructs and other sorts of very engrossing forms of readings.

When you sign up with content sites, then, you have greater chances of having additional income through simply composing simple and short pieces of compositions.

Furthermore, such sites are actually beneficial for beginners in freelance writing. However, you will likely prefer to move on to more decently-paying writing job opportunities once you have honed your skills.

Here’s a list of some websites that pay for a content, You need to write exceptionally good to be accepted of course. Follow these tips when writing content for others.

Pitch your Alma Mater

Universities commonly hire their former students since the institution’s alumni magazine requires writers. You can go over the guidelines in your magazine’s pitch so that you may begin reviewing some back issues and transmit to them a truly fascinating idea.

To do so, you may consider doing an interview with another alumnus who is currently renowned or successful in his/her chosen field- this is for you to get yourself an outstanding story to cover.

Alternatively, you can write about how your education in your alma mater prepared you for a promising freelance writing career.

Learn to become a good copywriter

Becoming a copywriter is a compelling next step once you master how to compose simple and clean copy for content sites. As a matter of fact, this is considered as one of the next phases you can take after writing for content sites for almost a year.

Take note that it is not necessary to wait a year to begin working as a copywriter; you can search for copy sites and begin applying for some gigs. From there, you can have fun writing whatever topic from product copy to some engrossing press releases.

Learn other tricks as you go

Learn how to set a regular schedule when working as a freelance writer

Whilst it is true that this kind of gig allows you to control the number of hours you prefer to work, still, if you really want to earn more, it is highly advised not to set boundaries and consider working more for several hours and stick to it.

It’s going to be difficult at first but once you get used to it you can learn how to manage time well and still have enough time to enjoy your free time.

Search for a coach or mentor

Take in mind that not all coaching relationships require you to pay to learn from their professional experiences. At times, their personal blogs are filled with useful and informative tips and tricks as well as ideas that you can use for free.

Aside from this, a simple product will format their schemes and methodologies- which can change your life significantly. It is wise to look for someone whose story engrosses, encourages and inspires you.  Make sure to figure out if they offer mentoring, coaching or products that you can purchase to improve your writing skills.

Learn how to keep track of your income.

It matters to track all your expenses and income from the start so that you can remain accountable to yourself and will continue to stick to gigs that will serve as your full-time income to support yourself and the needs of your loved ones.

Overall, it is important to keep in mind how crucial it really is to expand your vision for your freelance writing career. Needless to say, this would certainly change how you work toward this career. Not to mention, this is how you modify how much you make as a professional freelance writer.

True writers write because they enjoy creating art, connecting with the community of writers and sharing their perspective. But the reality is, every writer still has to pay the bills. And the only way you can afford to keep creating is to charge enough to not only survive but to thrive.

You are right Maricor, “True writers write because they enjoy creating art”. One has to be sure about the niche topic for article writing on which she/he could write better. And she/he has to do more and more experiment to get new topics to write about it.
