There’s no denying that being involved in a car accident results in various costs. However, while many drivers are well aware of more of the costs of the collision that can be claimed for, such as vehicle repairs, there are others that you may never have considered.

Recovering Your Losses After Being Involved In A Car Accident

As some drivers opt to attempt compensation claims without legal representation, it is most likely that you will not be fairly compensated as you won’t be aware of all the costs you will be able to claim for.

As you will suffer emotional stress, possible post-traumatic stress disorder, and other severe emotional turmoil challenges as a result of the severity of the vehicle collision.

You should consider every negative impact that resulted from the incident.

If you are wondering what an auto accident case is worth, you should consider the following consequences the victim of reckless driving often has to endure.

Loss of Transport

Even though you may be aware that you can claim from the responsible party, or from your insurer to cover the costs of vehicle repairs.

You may not have considered the time it will take for mechanics to repair your vehicle.

Therefore, you will not only be without transport for an indefinite time, but you will also have to battle to make alternative arrangements to get to and from work while your vehicle is being repaired.

Rather than claiming only for your vehicle repair costs, you should calculate exactly what your additional costs are for alternative transport.

Emotional Suffering

In terms of medical bills that can be compensated for, not many victims of reckless driving consider the essential need for therapy.

While focusing on your physical injuries is logically a priority, many victims of vehicle collisions often find themselves later relying on professional therapists to help them overcome their emotional turmoil that resulted from the collision.

While some drivers suddenly feel that they are no longer in control of their lives and travel in absolute fear, others refuse to get behind the wheel again as the stress of the situation can be remarkably challenging.

Rather than only considering your physical injuries, you should also consider how the experience has impacted your emotional state negatively.

Seek professional guidance from a therapist, and include these costs in your compensation claim.

Lost Wages

In some cases, you may be unable to work for an indefinite time while you are recovering from your injuries and in other cases, you may be left partially paralyzed or completely unable to work.

As your injuries are keeping you from work, you will be able to claim these losses.

However, it is crucial to provide adequate evidence that your injuries truly are limiting your professional abilities either temporarily or permanently.

Such evidence could be in the form of medical reports and letters from your employer.

Even though this is one of the more common types of claims when it comes to vehicle collisions and other types of personal injury cases, it is crucial to rely on the professional assistance of a legal representative as they will be able to ensure you are fairly compensated for lost wages.

Attempting to prove lost wages without proper legal support may put your claim in jeopardy and the responsible party or your insurer may not be as willing to compensate you as you would like to believe.

Claiming From Your Insurer

Most drivers who have been involved in a collision only consider the possibilities of claiming from the responsible party and all hope is often lost when law enforcement units fail to locate the responsible party if they have fled the scene of the accident.

However, in such situations, the victim of the incident can direct their compensation claim to their own insurance company.

You will need to have a thorough understanding of your insurance policy to ensure you are covered for such situations and even so, you will still benefit from the professional expertise of a lawyer when claiming from your insurer.

If you are not yet an insured driver, it is highly recommended to opt for insurance that will cover you in such situations as even the most careful drivers can be involved in a collision that results from other reckless drivers on the road.

Why You Should Rely On Legal Representation

One of the biggest mistakes is opting to claim without a lawyer.

Even though you are within your full rights to do so and you will believe that your claims are extremely relevant and accurate, your insurance company or the responsible party will attempt to avoid compensation payouts by denying responsibility.

In most cases, the responsible party will opt for the best legal representation to avoid financial implications.

This means you may wrongfully be denied payment simply because you do not have a suitably skilled legal representative to handle your evidence and the case for you.

Lawyers are well versed in all the legal jargon that you simply won’t understand, which means court appearances will be put in jeopardy and negotiating a compensation payout may not be possible.

If your insurer decided to offer you a low payout, your lawyer will insist on negotiations, ultimately, ensuring you are fairly compensated for your negative experience.

Another common reason countless drivers opt out of legal representation is the simple misconception that they believe lawyers are a great expense.

However, when considering that you will likely be able to claim for your legal costs, opting for legal assistance will not be an expense at all.

If you consider legal representation a surety that you will be compensated, your legal costs will not be a plausible aspect during the process of recovering your losses after being involved in a car accident.

Your lawyer will use their expert knowledge to ensure you are paid out, which is why it would be a fundamental mistake to believe that not having a lawyer could be a wise decision.
