Last week, I spoke about my appraisal at work and the effect of blogging on it. Although nowhere near the previous two bonuses, I still managed to get a significant lump sum amount. I have been pondering, where to invest the money? Here’s the solution, we are going to stock this entire money in our home buying fund, not in a retirement fund. Here’s how we did invest the money.

Where to invest my money

If you have missed, you can check out how much do I need save for retirement, the calculation showed that we are on-target for our nest egg with a monthly contribution to 401(k) and IRA and a company match.

A couple months ago I attended a conference on fund management. And there was that one lady there trying to intervene the whole time of the Conference given by a famous hedge fund manager. So the conference was all about performance, staggering returns, leverage, risk… etc. And once he finished his presentation, he gets off the stage, to interact with the attendees and answer their questions so people start asking, some come to him and try to give him their business card saying I’m interested in your funds or maybe we can do business together.

Sustainable and Responsible Investment

And so I noticed, this same lady who just throw one question, what do you do with SRI?  it’s quite funny actually that the hedge fund manager, stopped immediately turned and looked at her and said “interesting concept but I don’t know what to do with that and you don’t make money for your clients with that”.

Why to Invest in Gold

While it may not be entirely suitable for everyone, there is no doubt that gold is a unique and potentially lucrative investment that remains enduringly popular. It remains one of the few assets that can be traded either physically or on paper, but it is the status of gold as an actual measure of wealth that earmarks the commodity as a unique haven during every economic austerity.

Its consistent historical performance also offers solace to investors and is extremely unusual in an increasingly volatile financial market. Since the days of early monarchies, gold has been the primary mode of investment, until recently, when stocks took over that role. Still, experts recommend having 10-15% of investment in gold.

So why does gold present itself as such an essential asset to hold onto?

How to Expand Your Investment Strategy

Creating a diversified portfolio can help you insulate yourself against risk and grow your wealth quicker. With more investments, the idea is that you will lower the risk of losing all your money. When the stock market is stronger, having stocks is a good thing and when the bond market is stronger, having bonds generate higher profits.

Expand Your Investment Strategy

It can be easy to get into a rut with your investments since you tend to stick with what works. Having only stocks  and bonds is not diversification. However, it is important that you research other options and talk to your financial planner about some other possibilities.

4 Ways to Invest $100 or Less

One of the most common excuses from people in their 20’s and 30’s who aren’t investing is the attitude of “I’d love to invest, but I don’t have enough money to get started.” Well, this mindset simply isn’t true. There are plenty of options for investors with small amounts of cash. Investing in your first piece of property can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. Will you really be able to make a profit from real estate? Or will you end up in the hole? The answer depends largely on the properties you choose, what you do with them, and who you trust.

Real Estate Investment

Just a few months back we met a real estate investor in our community. He works as a realtor and real estate investor. He buys the properties for beaten down prices. He gives it a new look. He works on all aspects of the property, including remodelling. painting, face lifting and yard redesign, before selling it for a big profit.

Lots of young investors get sold on sure-fire, long-term success stories of conservative investors. Now, there’s nothing wrong with investment conservatism. Conservative investment strategies are usually built upon index mutual funds. I have been conservative all along, in the case of investment risk taking. I have always spoke about index mutual funds in earlier blog posts.

Investment

For those of you a little confused by the term, index mutual funds are made up of a smattering of hundreds of share portions of America’s largest companies.

Why You Should Invest in Websites

Let me start with a question – How diversified your investment is? You might have invested in stocks, in bonds, in savings account and funds. Some of you even invested in real estate properties. But, that’s not all. Probably 100 other type of investment options are out there. Basically buying and anything that can appreciate in value over the time, can be called an investment. So buying a piece of art is an investment. Buying a rare wine is an investment.

Similarly, there’s another class of investment, investing in web properties or websites. You don’t have to start a site from scratch, you buy sites that are already profitable. When I started this blog, I started this site from start. I bought the domain name and now slowly this is becoming a brand. One Cent at a Time is growing in terms of valuation. I am now in a position to sell this site for a very good amount. How much I invested, just $100. But I did put in a lot of sweat equity in it over the last 4 years.

Here’s a guest post from George about investing in digital assets, such as web sites. Enjoy the post, and don’t forget to read my post on starting a self hosted blog in 20 minutes.
