The Need for Home Content Insurance

Disasters strike homes especially natural disasters like earthquakes and floods as well as other disasters like fires and the wise thing is to insure your property. It is common with several homeowners to insure just the buildings alone and leave out its contents- contents probably of higher value than the building itself.

Your household contents might include some of your most valuable items like computers, TVs, furniture, kitchenware, bedroom stuff and everything else for your house and it is definitely crucial to include them in your home insurance. It is commonly obvious that whatever might happen to your building to cause damage might also affect the contents in the house and it is therefore equally imperative to insure them together.

Benefits of insuring your home content

1).Insurance companies provide a full replacement of the insured property under the agreement of the policy.

2).Insuring home contents gives you peace of mind incase your home is at danger of the disasters insured against.

3).Expensive items like computers can also be insured against irredeemable damage like breakage, burning and a replacement is always available.

What does the protection entails

Protection against theft, damage by fire, malicious damage from other people, damage incase of a natural causes like floods. However like it is the policy with insurance companies, no compensation can be honored by any insurance if the property was intentionally or deliberately damaged.

Important to know

  • Some insurance companies will offer replacements for old and worn out home contents under the insurance cover but not clothes.
  • Some cover items that you take away from home on regular basis or permanently but they were there when valuation was taking place.

However, whenever taking a home insurance policy, it is important to understand and get it clear from the insurance provider exactly what the policy covers. Some insurance companies request to cover certain properties and leave out others. In addition, it is critical to know the value of your house content to make sure you protect your property to the highest level possible. You will appreciate this at the time of your compensation.

Get written document detailing your agreement from your preferred insurance company, the full list of your insured contents and at least policy requirements. Read carefully the policy documents from different insurance providers at your disposal and make comparisons. Strike a deal with the company that will give the best protection for your house content.
