I have a reader from San Francisco, who wanted to let fellow citizens to know the ways to score cheap moving deals. With more than 10% of Americans moving every year, the tips are not only applicable for San Francisco but also are equally efficient in any city. Enjoy the post!

Moving Cheap Deals

San Francisco is one of the most beautiful and visited cities in the world. It is known for its Victorian architecture, hilly terrain, great cultural and ethnic diversity and liberal community. Local residents and visitors are fond of this city. Life here seems ideal, until you need to move your home or office.

San Francisco is physically quite compact, but if you need to move your house/office from one part of the city to another, you may face lots of difficulties. In fact, moving is always stressful. Whether you move around the corner or around the world, this process requires time and detailed planning. Employing experienced movers will certainly make your life easier. On the other hand, moving service in San Francisco are presented by a fair amount of companies. Needless to say that prices and offered services are not alike. Thus, if your main goal is a quick and stress-free move, you need to hire the best moving company.

When looking for the best moving company, there is no question that both reliability and affordable price are crucial aspects to consider. It begs the question of whether or not it is possible to enjoy both of these qualities? Moving rates in San Francisco range from $50 to $120 per hour, sometimes more. The price usually depends on the type of stuff you need to relocate, number of movers, company’s experience and so on. So, is it possible to find cheap and dependable company? The answer is — YES!

Here are 6 practical recommendations that will help save on your move, without compromising on the quality of the offered services:

1. Get multiple quotes

The easiest way to overpay is to take the first price quote that seems more or less reasonable. Comparing several moving quotes will give you more options to choose from and therefore opt for the most affordable price quote.

2. Negotiate quotes

The price quotes you receive are usually not final. So, do not be afraid to negotiate. Many moving companies reduce initial quotes if you ask for a discount.

3. Get rid of unnecessary

Generally, moving costs depend of the distance and weight. To cut down your expenses, take only those things, you will use in the new home/office. All unnecessaries can be donated or sold during a garage sale.

4. Pack things yourself

You will save a bundle by packing most of things yourself. Remember, however, that fragile things should be packed by professionals. Do not spare expense on professional and reliable wrapping.

5. Use your own moving supplies

A moving company will definitely offer their moving supplies. Though this might be very convenient, it is not always the cheapest option. Using your own supplies or old boxes is usually cheaper.

6. Move during the off-peak season

Moving in autumn and spring is usually cheaper than in summer. During off-peak moving seasons, companies usually reduce their rates.

Hopefully, these simple tips will help you find the cheapest and the best moving services.

These are very practical tips on reducing a seller’s moving costs, especially the one about moving off peak-season. However, there are definitely shady tactics that some movers take where they quote a low price and subsequently charge clients significant additional and unquoted fees on the moving day.

One thing you could mention is that some moving companies offer live instant free quote from their websites. Moving company like colonial van lines has a free moving quote calculator that produces a free instant quote. I think that is a good starting point for moving customers.
