That was interesting to read about your upbringing. I thought this was a good example of demand controlling prices though: You said that “A tailored item was almost half of the cost of ready-made clothing.” — presumably because people really wanted the ready-made clothing. Here I pay a fortune to get a few items of clothes that actually fit me instead of being ready-made.
No, its mainly because all cloth manufacturers first export their cloth lines to western countries so the price of a ready-made wear costs the same it costs in US. Where as being a billion plus population country, we generally have cheap labor and services do not cost much money. so a tailor is always the cheapest option.
