I asked her to give a few of her favorite low-cost recipes. Here’s what she came up with in 3 different emails. I can see the menu serves all tastes and food habit.

I always take the left over food for my lunch. In our cafeteria I see most of my co-workers buying food. Although subsidized, their per lunch cost must be more than what I pay for my boxed lunch. Previously we posted on ways to save money on hotels. This article from Penny is in line to that one with putting more emphasis on tricks to choose cheapest yet better budget hotel in your destination. Hope you’ll enjoy the post! How to find budget hotels Are you planning a trip, but are you worried about the cost? One of the best ways for you to stretch those vacation dollars out is to be smart about your sleeping options. If you research a little before you book, getting budget accommodation is easy. Read on for ideas on how to find a low-cost hotel room that suits your travelling style.

Research the Area

Before going on your vacation, research the average price of hotels in the area you’ll be travelling to. Once you know the average, decide how much you can afford to pay. However, just because a hotel meets your price range doesn’t mean you should book it immediately.

Because cheaper hotels are often farther from a city’s main sites, look at the transportation options that you’ll have in the area. Factor in the cost of getting to and from your hotel. For example, if you search for hotels near New York City, you may find some lower-priced options in New Jersey or areas other than Manhattan that will help you keep costs down while still being close enough to public transportation.

Renting a car is the cheapest way to have fun when you travel because you are not dependent on cabs, which are very expensive especially in big towns and you also save money on gas instead of driving your own car to the place you want to travel. Rented cars usually are well maintained which means you will almost never have any trouble with breakdowns and since the car is not yours, the risk of theft is almost discarded because the rental company takes care of the matter and you lose no money.

Car rental deals

Whenever possible we try to take our car. Our most recent two vacations involved driving instead of flying. We went to Savannah, GA and Orlando, FL from our South Florida residence. This fall we are planning to visit great Smoky mountains by car. So, whenever possible we try to avoid flights. That saves us money, gives us joy of long drive with scenic beauty. Whenever needed we stop the car, take pictures, give rest to body, etc.

The only thing certain about holidays is that you need to buy gifts and you’ll probably need to travel. The best way to prepare for the expenses is to save every month, a little towards that big expense. With the cheaper gas price, you’re expected to travel cheaper than previous years, but you can further cut cost.

Budget Airline Ticket

Even though you may have just put away the swimsuits and pool toys, now is actually the right time to start thinking about your holiday travel plans.  It used to be that you could wait until a few weeks before Thanksgiving or Christmas to buy your airline tickets, but those days are long gone.

We have been renting since the last 7 years. I have rented in two different cities and moved 5 times, and I have lived in both apartments and condos. When it comes to spending money while renting – unless you are extra vigilant, you might end up paying more than the monthly rent.

People have written page after page advising others how to buy a home, but there aren’t many resources covering how to rent. Even if you are going to stay in a rental home for a limited period, this is still the place you call home for next several months.

Below is my attempt to list the lessons I learned and good practices I adopted during several years as a renter.
