Does Buying Clothes Online Save Money?

How many of you shopped clothing online? I rarely did any before. My first online order was a disaster. Their medium-sized Tee was extra-large for me. I made it a point to buy every clothing after first trying it out in the fitting room. This habit changed now though. My wife showed me the way. Shopping clothes online do save money!

Buy Your Clothes Online and Save Money

It started one day when I got my 32X29 faded jeans online. I was looking for this at every store. Stores had 32X30, 32X31 and 32X28 but not the one I was looking for. Banana republic jeans changed my shopping habits. My wife also made me note the sizes at various departmental stores.

Now, I know the difference in a JC Penny medium vs. an Old Navy medium. So buying has become a lot easier now.

It’s now easier for me to shop for a perfect fit shirt online. Apart from fit I also look for free delivery, availability of coupons and estimated shipping time to zero in on an item.

RetailMeNot and Swagbucks are my most visited coupon apps. As a policy, we never buy items that charge us for shipping.

The Internet has reshaped the way of our shopping. Instead of heading toward local stores, people choose to sit indoors and get their purchased items delivered right at their doorsteps.

The reason people are turning toward online shopping is the saving of both money and time.

How? Continue reading to find out

You Get Competitive Prices

It’s more convenient to surf the internet for better options rather than hustle around in a busy market. You may find the same cloth with different price tags around the internet.

It’s easier to look for reasonable rates because you can bookmark shortlisted prices for reviewing later. Unlike local shops, you don’t have to run back and forth to compare which item you like the best.

The incredible variety of clothes and the fact that you can pre-order the item that is out of stock can save your money and time.

You are always guaranteed original products at the best prices when the products come directly from the manufacturer with no middleman involved.

Your Decisions are Carefully Thought Through

As the comparison is easy-peasy with e-shopping, your choices always turn out to be the best ones.

In your local shops, you are concerned about time and the attendants keep putting pressure and you end up buying clothes you regret later. Internet shopping saves you from compulsion.

You can sit back, relax and take all the time in the world to decide whether you want to buy a certain denim shirt or not.

All e-commerce sites have a return policy, so if you’re not satisfied with an item, you can return it as per the terms and conditions.

A Better Chance to Avail Discounts

Most online apparel shopping sites take your email or contact number to get in touch with you and send you a reminder to avail of discounted prices.

Some online retailers give you a free coupon code for being their regular customer, while others hold free giveaways for their precious buyers.

You can take part in competitions, freebies and other exciting promotional offers to benefit the most from your favorite brands.

Retail clothing stores closing

Traveling Expenses are Nil

Online apparel shopping comes with a lot of perks. You can conveniently place an order while relaxing at your home.

Let’s not forget the money you save by cutting down traveling expenses such as fuel, parking and even eating out; you feel hungry roaming around for hours.

With e-shopping, there is no geographical restriction and you can shop from any part of the world directly from your home.

You Only Buy What You Need

One of the major problems for shopaholics is impulse buying. If you find yourself in the same realm, you will also have this uncontrollable urge to buy items that you may not need or use.

This happens because retail stores put all glamorous items on display, so obviously, you imagine how you would look like wearing them individually.

When you shop apparel via the internet, you search the item that you need and the results display only one particular type.

For instance, if you are looking for a Tee, your search will bring only the Tees.

You won’t be seeing the latest sneakers, which though would look very good on you, but you do not need them right now.

Some drawbacks

There are certain tradeoffs that I also want to discuss here. Although I shop online, I do miss the outings to malls and the thrill I get at seeing and smelling new clothes.

I also face the color issue on some items. Color in the image on the shopping site wasn’t the color of the actual item. A few times I did find a manufacturing defect.

Also, I must admit, returning an online item is still very hard. We rarely go to the post office. Thinking about going there to return a $15 item and paying 5 postage fees prevented me from returning items in the past.

So, I stopped buying clothes from sellers on Amazon, eBay, and Ali Express. I only buy from stores that have a retail presence in my neighborhood. That way returning an item is as simple as visiting the mall and enjoying our time out.

Readers, what do you think about buying your clothing online?

I like to shop online for all the reasons you mention. Sometimes getting the right fit is a problem. One soon learns what size usually fits when there is no chance to try the garment on. For people who aren’t very mobile for a variety of reasons, it is a blessing to have a way of buying needed clothes. Of course, shopping this way has replaced the old way of buying from a catalog. I do feel bad that so many retail stores are going out of business as a result of shopping online.

Carole thanks for that thoughtful comment. I do feel for the job losses as retail stores are closing every day. But in the economy, we have constant changes. I am sure those people are still finding something else to do.

Very soon many of the jobs will be lost due to automation

Hmm.. I’ve actually done very little clothes shopping online. I’m always afraid the clothes won’t fit or won’t look good on me.

When shopping ‘in real life’, you get to literally try on the item before deciding whether or not to buy it. You see how it fits you and how it makes you look. A simple picture of the item you’d like to buy doesn’t help much when it comes to clothing..

I do, however, believe you can save a ton of money this way. Nevertheless, I still prefer the ‘real deal’ when it comes to clothes, shoes and groceries. For other items – long live online shopping!

I see where you’re coming from and you are not alone. I still do 50% of my shopping from stores in the malls. And, as I mentioned if you don’t feel comfortable in a dress you ordered online, you can always return it to the brick and mortar store.
