Hard Cash from Soft Copy: PROs and CONs of Working at Home

Not a long back, I posted on wonders of working at home. In this guest post, Apple talks about pros and cons of working at home. While working at home is not an option for me, I can still take a few days a month to work from home. I almost never worked from home in real sense. Honestly, it was good first few hours then, I felt bored. The hustle and bustle of an office I started missing soon. I guess I am not really a work-at-home person. But that’s me! Enjoy this guest post from Apple

Working at Home

Getting tired of sitting all day long in front of your computer? Scrolling through your social media sites and benefit with nothing? Why not use that patience and scrolling ability of yours to earn yourself some hard cash?

While some people struggle from every day’s traffic and outfits to earn their salary, some are at home, being comfy in front of their computers to earn the same salary.

So what “Home-based work” really meant?

It is basically the term itself… working your a** off while at home.

PROs of Working via Home-Based

Office job can also be done at home, with just a little adjustment.

Appearance

This is more convenient than preparing yourself for work, from the time you wake up to the time you go home.

Working at home doesn’t require you to suit yourself up to look fresh and professional. You can just go straight from your bed to your computer without even bothering yourself to comb. This is not just comfortable, it also saves you time tidying yourself before you go to work (unless you want to).

Flexible Time

While a physical company requires a strict time table as:

Time in – working hours – break time – working hours – last check – log out

Working at home could give the opportunity to handle your own time. Sometimes, thinking of strategies to use on your job takes a large cut of time from the whole piece of your time-table for just a single task alone. But it’s definitely worth it. Well planned kind of work is greater than fast but poor kind of work.

All you have to remember is to finish your task in time and furnish everything before sending a good set of quality reports to your boss.

Recreation

Being in the office often gives the brain a signal of exhaustion. This can trigger the body to feel tired, bored, stressed, fatigued and all kinds of negative vibes, especially when the working environment is too still.

A bit of recreation is needed to fuel your mind to work. This gesture also allows good circulation of blood and oxygen through your brain and body to keep them work hand in hand. Plus you don’t have to worry about keeping your working station always neat and ready for inspection, for your working environment is comfortable enough because it’s your own place.

As much as these points are enticing, all things should be in balance. Working via home-based is not all PROs, there are also cons behind it, and only those who have this kind of working environment knows.

But what the heck! Some of you should also know how it’s like (especially when you keep on insisting to visit a home-based friend while they’re working).

CONs of Working via Home-Based

Although it may seem like a very easy way to keep your pace, it’s not as easy as that.

Time Management

With all that flexible time in your own hand, sometimes the time set up for work can be scraped and used with personal tasks.

Instead of having a timely set of workload, you end up rushing yourself to finish the given task because you’re already short of time and you have a deadline to target.

Too Comfortable

Because you’re inside your comfort zone, being too comfortable while working is a big NO-NO!

It could trigger your body to relax to its limit and let your guard off. This may proceed to being unconsciously blank and tired.

Your mind will insist your body to get rest and get some sleep. Sometimes, longer than what you’ve expected.

As a result, the momentum you have when you started your work will be lost, you’ll lack time and you need to exert some extra effort just to finish what you started.

No Company Events

Because you chose not to work in the office, you’ve also chosen to have a loner type of work. While others party with their company anniversary, Halloween special, Christmas party, and any kind of company events… You’re at home, still working in front of your computer. Wondering what kind of present you could’ve got when you have some co-workers to exchange boxes with.

All things come in handy when you know how to handle them responsibly. Like working at home, making and sending soft copies from your hard work to hard cash.

    Interesting points!
IMO the top reason of working from home is that at home we can build the environment around us. Something that is not possible if we are employed in someones company.
As the psychologist K. Lewin stated, our behavior is a function of our own characteristics and the surrounding environment. Accordingly, how well we perform and how happy we can live depends on that.
    Cheers,
    Robert

My husband has started working from home and has been enjoying a lot of the pros you mentioned. (He’s often still in bed when I drive off to work!) However, one thing to beware of if you become self-employed, is self-employment taxes. Ouch!

Motivation… it’s so easy to find something else to do when your mind’s not on your job. Having no money will focus your attention I guess, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who sometimes struggles to find the self-discipline necessary to put in the hours and keep working, am I?

I love working from home. There are some negatives, but the positives greatly outweigh anything negative about working from home for me.

I enjoy working from home.No traffic to sit in,no “manager” looking over my shoulder and the freedom to do what I want when I want.I have the discipline to get the work done so I don’t loaf.

There’s a time for work, there’s a time for the gym,the pool and my motorcycle. The beauty is I don’t have to ask anyone’s permission. That is true freedom in every sense.

As far as home employment taxes,my company has an app that let’s me get all the write offs a corporation gets.As a W2 employee, one is limited to what they can write off.Not me.
