How to Find Affordable Insurance with Bad Driving Record

A poor driving record is not really a rarity. Instances of traffic violation are quite common and it’s simply not fair to blame the driver every time. While it’s true that they often demonstrate a callous disregard for the traffic rules, it’s also true that it’s not always possible for them to follow traffic rules flawlessly.

How to Find Affordable Insurance with Bad Driving Record

The police are always on the lookout for drivers performing violations and even minor violations are not spared. In my 13 years of driving, I got two tickets and one red light violation. The first time, I took the defensive driver’s course, when I was caught by a well-known speed trap along the rural Florida driveway.

The second time, it was on city road. But, the two tickets were spaced 8 years apart so none of them had any impact on my insurance premium. I still pay less around $850 per 6 months, for our two cars, 2011 Camry, and 2017 CRV.

I shop around for lower rates every time our carrier increases rates. There are plenty of ways how good drivers can lower their auto insurance premiums.

The problems come when you have too many bad tickets within a short interval. This indicates a careless driver. For DUI, a single offense is enough for insurance premium to turn nasty though.

Finding Affordable Insurance with Poor Driving Record

Drivers with tickets or traffic violations on their record, actually find it difficult to procure affordable car insurance. With every traffic violation from your end, your insurance keeps getting trickier.

Finding affordable car insurance with a checkered driving record (traffic violations or car accidents) can be a real challenge.

If you have just been slapped with a ticket for a traffic violation, you may not really know it immediately – but you will realize in the long run that your insurance premiums have gone up.

The rate of increase, in this case, will depend on how worse your driving record is getting.

For instance, it has been pointed out, that if a driver gets 2 tickets, he is no longer regarded as a good driver by most of the insurance companies out there.

These companies will hardly have anything to do with drivers with more than 2 tickets. Even if you are thinking about switching your present insurance company, the new company is likely to charge you an arm and a leg!

Once you get 2 tickets, you already end up losing the discount that a good driver is entitled to (20% good driver discount). So, a 3rd ticket doesn’t really impact your car insurance significantly.

At least I haven’t known someone whose third ticket really made any significant difference compared to the impact of the second ticket.

Is it Very Difficult?

A casual search will not really help you find an affordable car insurance policy for drivers with a poor driving record.

Only when you are conducting in-depth research can you expect to find an affordable carrier. Did a speeding ticket, car accident, or traffic violation raise your insurance rates?

If so, here are companies that have a cheaper rate according to QuoteWizard https://quotewizard.com/auto-insurance/how-to-get-cheap-car-insurance.

Here is a look at the companies offering you the lowest possible rates even with accidents or tickets.

  • The Hartford ($120)
  • American Family ($140)
  • Farmers ($133)

A Few Other Names

Besides, Allstate, Bristol West and State Farm are a few other names that you can reach out to – as well.

Allstate, for instance, commands a good degree of reliability – notably – because it offers drivers a string of incentives to get their driving record back on track.

If you manage to go six months without causing accidents, you will actually be presented with a check from this company.

If you go a year without any traffic violation you will be rewarded with a $100 off on your collision deductible.

Then there is State Farm, which actually offers you discounts up to 50% if it decides that you are not a risky driver, as has been recorded by your state.

You will never be able to find out about these discounts or companies unless you are conducting in-depth research. In that case, you will end up settling for high quotes arbitrarily.
