Ways to Save in London Olympics – Infographic

This is a tribute to UK readers. Thanks for sticking with OCAAT. I remember the day when International Olympic Committee decided on awarding 2012 Olympics games to London, I was in London that day. I witnessed the joy and euphoria among masses.

If you are in UK, you may have planned to have a have a sneak peek at the Olympics events. These tips are for your Olympic trips to London.

This is once in a lifetime opportunity to see the games. Why should you not be at the venues to watch? Your family and your children should have an Olympic experience, especially since its happening in your backyard.

London is costly city compared to any of the US cities. During Olympics even a shred accommodation cost per night can easily beat NYC top hotel cost. I know its difficult to fathom, but this is the fact.

Infographic Credit goes to Shakthi Himalaya (for some reason I don’t know)!

At the end, not to scare you off, but visiting London from outside to watch Olympic events even for a single match means you have to allocate the full day due to heavy traffic, road blockages, security clearance and especially since you have to travel by car, train, special transport buses and walk to reach at the venue.

People who are planning to visit London to support home country, would do better if they try to book tickets to nearby airports , even flying to Paris or Brussels can save money as Euro rail only takes $100 or less to travel between Paris/London or Brussels/London.

All the best to your trip and cheers for your country’s performance at the Olympics! Will you be going, readers?

I love Kayak. We have gotten some awesome deals on flights using that site. We have also stayed at universities and hostels and it has saved a ton. Plus you get to meet a lot of local people that way. I much prefer to travel budget.

Seeing the Olympics in London would have been awesome but it wasn’t in the cards this year.

London scares me. I went to McDonalds 10 years ago and spent 12 pounds on a meal. Plus I probably added 2 lbs to the stomach.

I would love to go to the London Olympics – in Vancouver a couple of years ago all prices skyrocketed right before the winter olympic games. I think it was okay if everyone booked far in advance, though!

Yeah if only the plan is farm though. Actually the demand for the games is anticipatory so I don’t think it would have helped anyway no matter how far ahead you buy tickets.

Thanks for your tribute to us UK readers! It is exciting that the Olympics are being held in the UK. However, as with most big things in the UK, it is heavily dominated by London. Those in the North (which includes me) always seem a bit left out. The national footabll stadium for example (soccer to those in the US!) is in London, despite football being more traditionally a Northern sport. The rugby and cricket national stadiums are also in London. Whilst those in the South are excited about the Olympics, this is not shared as much in the North unfortunately.

Well Olympics are held in a city so this disparity would stay in any country. You said Soccer is traditionally north UK sport, but I know that Chelsea, Arsenal are London based clubs. I under about Manchester or Liverpool.

As far as the cricket there are good stadium there other than Lords. But I think you are definitely proud to be a host of 2012 Olympics.

Are you planning to make a trip to south during Olympics?

I love love love infographics. I will, however stay away from Europe this summer. Prices are going 4x as much as normal. I made the mistake of going to Rome for EURO league championships and it was so difficult to find hotels.
