Compensation Amounts That Can Be Claimed Following a Motorbike Accident

A motorbike accident can create damaging consequences in several areas of an injured motorcyclist’s life. Serious injuries can lead to costly treatment fees and cause added stress, emotionally and financially. While compensation will not be able to completely undo the physical and mental damage, it does help ease the financial burden placed on the victim.

The Compensation Amounts That Can Be Claimed Following a Motorbike Accident

Motorbike Accident Claims is a solicitor firm that specializes in pursuing compensation cases involving motorbike accidents. They have provided a summary of the types of pay-outs that can be awarded to a motorcyclist following an accident that wasn’t their fault.

Motorbike Accident Compensation Pay-outs

There’s no doubt that to become a motorcyclist is to accept a high level of risk. They are one of the most vulnerable types of road users.

In fact, road accident statistics released by the UK government in 2018 suggests that between 2016-17, motorcyclists were 62 times more likely to suffer a fatality as a result of an accident compared to car drivers.

There are two serious risks to consider, the likelihood of an accident and the severity of the outcome. Motorbikes can reach high speeds but have less control due to being restricted to two wheels.

They are also more difficult to see by other road users, have a greater challenge navigating dangerous road surfaces and weather conditions, and are often victims of reckless driving by car drivers.

If an accident does occur, then the chances of the outcome resulting in a serious injury is extremely high.

Simply put, motorcyclists don’t have the same level of protection as drivers of vehicles such as cars, trucks, lorries and buses. Whereas these drivers have access to seatbelts, airbags and interior protection, motorcyclists do not.

Instead, they are left to protect themselves with safety helmets and padded clothing.

This only does so much to limit the extent of the resulting injury from an accident. Motorcyclists are in danger of flying off their motorbike or becoming trapped or crushed.

For example, a collision for a motorist may leave the driver with whiplash, while the same type of accident for a motorcyclist can be much more costly.

The compensation amount you will receive depends on various factors, the type of injuries being one of the key considerations. There are many types of injuries that can be sustained as a result of a motorbike accident.

These can occur in any physical form, including head injuries, arm injuries, leg injuries and other injuries throughout the body. The victim may also suffer from a mental health condition such as depression due to the accident and the negative impact it has had on their life.

When it comes to calculating the injury pay-outs, a guide can be used to determine the minimum and maximum amounts that will be awarded. In our experience, injuries involving paralysis typically awards some of the most expensive pay-outs.

Quadriplegia involves partial or total loss of all four limbs and torso with pay-outs ranging from £262,350 to £326,700. Paraplegia is a similar condition but doesn’t affect the arms, so pay-outs range from £177,100 to £299,900.

Another serious condition is total blindness and deafness with successful compensation claims awarding up to £326,700.

Ultimately, conditions that have seriously long-term ramifications will award the highest compensation amounts. More minor injuries with short-term impact will reward the lowest amounts, but the compensation is still beneficial and will help ease the financial pressure.

For instance, whiplash can award pay-outs from £1,705 to £20,185 depending on how long it lasts and whether surgery is required.
