Using Your Resume to Get That High Paying Job

Writing a resume isn’t all that fun. It can take hours to get all of that information into bullet points to fit one or two pages, and even then, is it competitive against other candidates? If you want to get a high-paying job, then you need to get a resume that really excites hiring managers and recruiters.

Using Your Resume to Get That High Paying Job

Many job candidates seek help from online websites that have expert knowledge on what resume language works best to impress potential employers.

By learning to write a killer resume, you can increase your chances of becoming a top-notch candidate that employers would love to hire. Here are some ways you can spruce up your resume to land the biggest salary.

Eye-Catching Resume Design

When’s the last time you updated the overall format and font of your resume? If it’s been the same since the 1990s or even 2000s, you need to get a resume upgrade fast.

The latest simple and clean aesthetic come with new fonts and icons that can really enhance the look of your resume.

If you can do anything at all, you should stay away from Times New Roman and bulky fonts. Instead, use a sleek and new font that doesn’t take up a lot of space while being easy to read.

Format Resumes with Juiciest Details on Top

You want your skills and experience to stand out. Nowadays, some resume formats isolate highlights at the top underneath the objective statement.

This gives employers a quick overview of you before skimming down to your work experience and education.

Since a lot of employers are looking for soft skills, this is a great place to showcase what you do best and any achievements that you’ve had in the past few years.

Add Your LinkedIn and Website Address

While you may have your name and address at the top, this is a pretty old school. Most employers are looking for basic details at the top, including your name, contact information, and hopefully, a website address.

This address can be your LinkedIn profile or your own website. We imagine the best candidates have a LinkedIn address that also links to their website, but if you have more content and portfolio pieces on your site, then you should add that to your resume header as well.

Get Around Online Application Bots

Large companies won’t waste time looking at resumes one-by-one. Instead, they’ll use software to see which candidates are going to meet their requirements and have the right skill sets.

They’ll get applicant tracking systems that can easily spot the top candidates. So how do you get around these bots?

When you upload your resume to an online application, the computer scans your resume for keywords that are applicable to the job you’re applying for.

Then, they whittle down the pool into candidates who look the best based on criteria set by the employer. These systems are designed to take out 75% of the riffraff before getting to the top candidates.

You can find keywords and skills by looking at the job posting, then add those to your resume in order to get the bot’s attention.
