Welcome readers to July 2012 blog statistics. I am thankful to you for your constant  encouragement towards OCAAT. If you are a new reader, I publish traffic report every month. This helps me keep track of blog growth and health check. While writing the post I get a chance to go over statistics and health of the site.

If you have no interest in traffic numbers, here are a list of the best posts of July 2012, in my opinion. If you missed any you can catch up now.

Traffic update for One Cent at a Time

May was best month here at OCAAT, followed by a summer slump in June. We saw traffic decreasing by as much as 20% with 30% drop in search traffic in the month of June compared to May. In July we regained the lost ground and monthly page view number almost touching the May numbers.

No big blog/site mention in July, still we grew because of increase in direct traffic tot he blog and visits through social media like Twitter and Facebook.

The other notable updates related to traffic are

1. We had a traffic drop in June, but it increased again and now the numbers are same as it was in May 2012. Search traffic was all time high in May. Good point is number of direct visits increased and Facebook/Twitter visits increased. We now have near 2000 Facebook fan and 3,500+ Twitter followers.

2. Alexa rank oscillated between 49k and 54k mark. We saw rank increase from SEOMoz. OCAAT is now having a domain authority of 49 and Moz rank of 5.35, which is pretty impressive considering its only 15 months old. Google didn’t seem to agree and kept page rank unchanged at 3.

3. Number of blog RSS subscribers also went up by over 50. If you haven’t done so, please subscribe to my RSS feed or email.

Traffic Data For July 2012

  • Total Visits – 20,579

Those are good stats for a relatively young site. Have you thought about testing different page design/layout on your site to try to reduce bounce rate?

I did, but nothing’s working out, you have a suggestion?

(You probably know this but just in case).. “bounce rate” measures the percentage of people (visitors) who take action after visiting your page – basically a click or input of data – this is what the search engines measure. By lowering this bounce rate you will increase traffic as the search engines will give you a bit more love 😉
As a general rule of thumb (very general as I don’t know what you’ve tried so far)… posts as teasers only make a difference, so a strong headline, great introduction and then an opening paragraph telling the reader what they will get by reading the whole article and then a call to action to “read more” (“Get the full facts here…” etc)
In addition to this, site design is where you should look first – you’re getting good traffic and if you’re losing over 75% very quickly this can be greatly improved (reduce the bounce) by looking at site design, layout etc.
My first impression when visiting would be that your site looks a little jaded in colour (no offence intended) – the theme looks a few years old and this “may” cause some readers to see the site as “old news” …

Anyway, I hope this helps a little – I have a great design team I can put you in contact with if needed so drop me an email if you’re stuck and decide to go this way.. 🙂

Thanks for sharing your stats. You have lots of visitors 🙂

I have new blog and getting 1000 views that I think is ok because I have only a few post but on the same time I was confused and scared about avg. visit time and bounce rate of visitors on my new blog but now I am satisfied, it’s not too bad.

Himanshu, give it a time and the success would come slowly, 10 – 20 users increase per week, kind of increase. Have patience and provide value consistently.

I agree with you. It will take time and efforts to have good traffic, my blog is only three months old and it gets 80% of traffic from search engines that’s great.
